3rd Annual Frederick Rugby Pig Roast Golf Classic
Saturday June 30th, 2001

Two years ago, a hand full of players were looking for another reason to play golf and the Frederick Rugby Pig Roast Golf Classic was born. In its first year, the tournament was held at The Links at Challedon. Amazingly only eight players could be pulled together and two teams fielded. In the true spirit of rugby the eight players arrived early, battled hangovers, torrential downpours of rain, and a shortage of beer. After eighteen grueling holes, the scores were added. It was a tie. After much trash talking and drinking at the pig roast, a solution to the tie was proposed. So the eight players, being followed by many others, climbed back onto the course and attempted to play one last hole. It was decided that only their putters would be used, in a winner take all bout. Maybe it was too much pig, or maybe it was too much beer, but no official winner was declared.

The 2nd Annual Classic proved that this tournament had now become a tradition. The tournament was held at The Black Rock Golf Club. The day of only eight players was in the past. We had a great turnout, great weather, and plenty of beer. We also had the addition of the coveted Pig Roast Classic Trophy. For the first time the tournament also began to make money for the club.

This year the 3rd Annual Classic will be held at Glade Valley Golf Club. It will be held on June 30, 2001. Since its inception, this tournament has continued to grow and hopefully so will the amount of fun had and money raised for the club. That is why we want to see all of you on the course. Since we randomly choose teams from all participants on the morning of the tournament, there is no need to form your own team. So if you do not have a partner or you are not the best golfer, it doesn’t matter. Also, please feel free to invite others to join us.

Rules

  • Teams of four will be randomly drawn from all participants.
  • Each foursome will split into two twosomes and play with another teams’ pair.
  • After the first nine holes, the twosomes will switch and play against the opposite twosome.
*(The foursomes are split up so players can keep an eye on each other and discourage cheating - We like to call this The Romano Rule)
  • On holes 1 and 10 the ball must be picked up and thrown once it is inside 50 meters UNTIL it reaches the green. Each throw counts as a stroke.
  • A Mulligan may not be “traded”, however they may be purchased for tee-shots at a price of $10.00 a piece. (Money will be collected when the scorecards are turned in).
  • Above all excessive drinking and rowdy behavior is highly encouraged and looked upon favorably.

Scoring
Holes 1 - 6: Best ball of twosome
Holes 7 - 12: Best score of the twosome
Holes 13 - 18: Total score of twosome
After the 18th hole each twosome adds their scores together for one total score.
