Live from the Red Horse It’s Saturday Night!!

Saturday 10th January 1998

Wow, I tell you, when you need an opening act - we all now know - look no further than our own Coach John Redmond!! Not only is he a qualified, successful Coach - but he’s a heck of a stand-up comedian!! Kidding aside, what a great event the Banquet turned out to be. One hundred and five people were present, that’s pretty impressive. The Bub is back - that was one of the messages, thanks for taking care of the music. It was great to have so many pumped up and positive players and family. It was great to have both Kevin Eagar and Kevin Fraser present as well as former Eagle Sevens Captain Will "Wheels" Brewington. The speeches from our guest speakers Sid "Vicious" Miller and Tommy Grunwell went over very well as did the brief addresses by Don Briggs and Dan "Moo" Makosy. This is the kind of atmosphere we need, let’s see if we can sustain it over the next three months and do our Club proud!!

A Few Things We Learned at the Banquet

1: You don’t want to play golf with Wilki!!

2: John Redmond gets the Comedy Channel

3: If Chris White is in the Continental US - he will make practice!!

4: Larry Grimm’s "spot" is a useful point of reference for the Cable 10 Commentary box.

5: Jason Delauter enjoys a good party.

6: EVERYONE has a John Redmond story.

7: Eric A knows he can tackle Jonah Lomu?

8: Gold’s Gym T-shirts cost $17:50.

9: Web NEVER misses a party.

10: Jeff Lutton’s arm length is a real asset when It comes to 50:50s.

Gold’s Practices

Tues/Thurs 7:30pm - 8:30pm

Between 20 and 30 players are attending the plyometric practices each session. Moo, and Gold’s Instructor Paula, have developed a really useful work out, if you haven’t tried it yet, give it a shot. The sessions are also a good team-building exercise, in preparation for Savannah.

Once again we are going down South for the St Patrick’s Day weekend. The cost this year is $125 per person, the good news is that the hotel is 0.5 miles from the River Walk. This is a great tour and a great time. The tour is set for 24 people (4 rooms/3 vans). If you want to go write a check SOON, before it fills up.

Call Julian (301) 662-2599 for details and to confirm your place.

Five Nations Rugby

Flanagan’s Irish Pub

The European Five Nations tournament is set to start soon. The matches are shown live at Flanagan’s Irish Pub, 7637 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda (301) 986-1007. (Cost $10 at the door) Once again this year England and France are heavy favorites. However, Wales, Ireland and Scotland always play their best against England - I don’t know why - some vague hint that English people weren’t overly nice to the Celts in the old days. The rugby is played differently to the Tri-Nations, the pitches are wetter and heavier - but this season could be the start of a more expansive rugby style coming out of Europe. See schedule below (home country listed first):-

Feb 7th France v England

Ireland v Scotland

Wales v Italy

Feb 21st England v Wales

Scotland v France

Mar 7th Wales v Scotland

Mar 21st Ireland v Wales
