First Practice

Sat Aug 15th

11:00am Ft.Detrick

This is where we start to build for another Championship run. The format will be a mixture of drills, games and scrimmages. We need to quickly get back to 15s as we face PAC the following Saturday (22nd).

Lance French

New Head Coach of Frederick Rugby

After two years at the helm, John Redmond will move to the position of Coaching Co-ordinator (to permit him to Coach MARFU 7s, MARFU 15s, Frederick Youth and still be involved with Frederick RFC). We were very fortunate to be able to look within the Club and ask Lance French to step up to the Head Coach position. Lance has recently bought a house in Frederick, has retired from the active roster and is really excited about continuing the development of the Frederick machine. Please welcome Lance into this very challenging role and help him out wherever possible.

Fund-Raisers

As we all found out last season, we need to raise money through Fund-Raisers to assist with travel and lodging costs down the road. Club members have organized 5 events, that if we participate and do a good job, could bring in $4,000 before the season even starts!! Please make yourselves available and help out. If we all chip in these jobs will be pretty painless and they always end up being a lot of fun.

Pig Roast

Saturday 15th Aug

This is going to be good!! Building on the success of Pete Ireland and Jason Delauter’s Pig Roast last year, these two have gone overboard!! $10 per person fund-raiser gets you into Jason’s place for 2 pigs, 10 kegs, 2 bands, pool, horse-shoes, volleyball and more. Party will start in the afternoon after the first practice and go on late!! The key to these Fund-Raisers is first for all of us to attend and second for us to bring friends!! This is a good way to get people interested in the Club and have fun too! If 50 of your team mates bring their wives or girlfriends with them, that’s 100 people ($1000). If everyone brings their wife or girlfriend and two friends, that’s 200 people ($2000)!! Call Pete or Jason.

Letter From An Old Friend

Most of you will remember Jack and Charla. Jack was our BIG blonde center who was paired up with our little center Doc for a couple of seasons and an interesting Atlanta trip!! Jack’s mum recently moved to Frederick and taped some of the Channel 10 matches for him. I received this letter in the mail.

Dear FRFC, Congratulations on an outstanding season. To be second in the nation is quite an acheivement and you should all be very proud of your accomplishments. You are a talented and dedicated team and I’m sure the future holds great things for you.

I received a couple of tapes of your televised games and it was sure nice to see you guys in action. There were a lot of familiar faces as well as some very talented new ones. To see you guys in action brought back a lot of memories of the two seasons I played with FRFC. I’ve played rugby all over the world in the service, but nothing will ever top Frederick Rugby. You guys were like family to me and I miss you every time I step onto a pitch. I just wanted to wish you luck in the future, and also to thank you for being a part of the best rugby I’ve ever been associated with.

You guys are the best, good luck.

Summer Sevens

After our long 15s season, the 7s squad never really got established. Manager Pete Ireland did a great job running the Hempen Ale 7s Tournament and the squad missed qualifying for MARFU by 1 point. So the bottom line is that Frederick are really improving in 7s, but this year, the program was more of an opportunity to stay fit and have fun through the summer. (I’ll get together with Pete and put out the season stats next newsletter).
