Savannah: Match 2 Saturday:
I’m loathe to say that this was a match against Air Force 2 because when you bring a squad of 70 and are down 15 – 0 at the half there is a temptation to load up your team with Air force 1 players, but Air Force 2 it was.
We certainly knew that in order to compete with Air Force we would have to play better than our morning match. In the first half it really was all Frederick with first Scott Wade slotting a goal after 5 minutes then first Tobin on the 10 minute mark and Jeff Arendt on the 15-minute mark crossing for tries. Scott Wade converted the first try giving us a 15 – 0 cushion at the half.
In the second half Air Force started to get more possession and moved in to slot a penalty and get on the board. Dog very quickly cancelled that out chasing down a Kenny kick and scoring the try. Up 20 – 3 we dug in deep. Air Force crossed for a converted try on the 47th minute then bulldozed in for another on the last play of the game to come up short. Final score was Frederick 20, Air Force 17.
We were able to pick up some really high quality players from Marshall in Joe, Adrian and Chris (all second rows for us in this match) also Bryan a prop from Suburbs came in to replace Ryan when he had a heart racing issue and did great for us. Finally John Webber was on hand to pick up 10 minutes at the end on the flank, thanks Lerch for letting Webby get a little time with us.
