Savannah: Match 1 Saturday:
Getting started in Savannah after a day out on the town is always tough. This year was no exception with a good-sized University of Maine team staying close the whole game.
We started off well but dropped a few passes in their 22m and it wasn’t until the 17th minute that pressure at the scrum led to a try by Mat Lerch. Maine answered back quickly with a run in try, gathered at the restart. This was converted and followed up with a penalty to leave the score at Frederick 5, U. Maine 12 at the break. Frederick quickly tied up the score with Kenny crossing for a try converted by Scott Wade straight after the half, but U. Maine answered with another converted try to regain the lead at 19 – 12. Slowly we started to gel and maintained possession. Tries came from Dog and Wade with Wade converting one to finish the game at 24 – 17. Watching Air Force dismantle Morris on the other side of our bracket was a little sobering!
Thanks to Joe from Marshall for taking on the lock spot.
