Well we expected a test from Media and we got one, one we failed quite dramatically. In the first half we played with an amount of composure doing well in the pack and making some breaks, but Media executed their moves better and went into the half up 19 to 8 on the back of three tries verses a penalty slotted by Kenny and a try scored by Art Hall.

In the second half Media went for the jugular and we went walk-about. We started off well again forcing Media to take a penalty goal rather than cross our line and a Media forward was sin binned for consistently falling over the ball. We marched down to their line and set two strong scrums but poor control at the base led to the ball squirting lose and Media relieved the pressure. After that Media just upped the intensity and scored 4 more tries ending up winners by some distance at 48 to 8.

In the B-side Mike Donohoe finally got to get his first game of rugby under his belt and was part of a team that looked to defend much better than the A-side and also chased the ball around with more energy. Jason Evenhuis was on the board with a try almost immediately and this was followed up by an 80m run in from Scott Wade to take us 10 – 0 ahead. By the half Media had closed things up and took a 2-point lead (converting one of their two tries). In the second half we faded off and Media ran in three tries to win 31 – 10.

I’m not sure if this was disappointing, frustrating or both. The squad just didn’t look up for the task at hand and we’ll need to get back to basics in order to hold off Old Gaelic on Saturday.
