The weather spared us and Saturday turned out to be a great, sunny day out at the farm. In the A-side the first 10 minutes were 10-minutes to forget. We conceded 6 penalties for dumb infringements, didn’t get our hands on the ball and watched Old Gaelic put up 9 points with three penalty kicks. Finally we woke up and got some territory with tries coming in from Mike Bangh and Art Hall taking us 10 – 9 ahead by the half. Old Gaelic were content to keep the scoreboard ticking over and slotted another two penalty kicks while Frederick scored two more tries (one converted) to finish out on top at 22 – 15.

In the B-side match due to the front row union being on vacation we had to use uncontested scrums. Thanks to PJ and Nik Reese for taking front row slots – unfortunately Nik ended up with a serious sprain so left the field and Mike Donohoe left soon after (fortunately just bruising for Mike). After just 5 minutes flanker Bill Stablein crossed for a score but 15 minutes after this James Oliverio said thanks and intercepted a pass and ran it in. With the conversion Gaelic went ahead. Tobin stretched in for a score converted by Wade before the half putting us up 12 – 7 by the break. In the second half we looked pretty good with Scott scoring two tries and converting both to take a healthy 26 – 7 lead. On the very last play of the match though, Gaelic’s pack kept the ball and after several phases scored between the posts to finish off strong. Final score was Frederick 26, Old Gaelic 14.
